SAME PROFFESIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Are you a SAME Denver Post member? Are you looking for professional development training? Are you considering taking additional college courses to further your career? Are you wondering why you should stay a member of the SAME Denver Post?

The SAME Denver Metro Post (DMP) is excited to consider the Professional Development Scholarship! The DMP is fortunate to have many active members. The SAME DMP is expanding its offerings to include benefits that encourage existing members to stay members. Regardless of age, length of membership, and other factors, many members are looking to expand their knowledge and skills. Scholarships for those looking for these opportunities could be used to attend SAME Conferences and Workshops, leadership training, and college courses. We have excellent reasons why someone should become a member, and this program would help us sustain them as members. This program would be an investment in our members and feedback to SAME DMP through increases retention, and added incentives for new members to join SAME. Guidelines would be courses in leadership (a benefit to SAME with more skilled members), engineering (such as PE reviews), and homeland security/defense, etc. In exchange for SAME DMP scholarship support, candidates could commit to help with specific SAME goals and mission components to further grow and develop the organization.

The scholarships could be limited to a set amount per award or could be on a case-by-case basis. Overall, I think the funding per year should have a budget line item in the Board’s annual budget. I believe initially the Board (or scholarship committee) should consider a trial run or beta test of this program with the goal of moving towards moving towards a semi-annual submittal deadline as the program becomes more established. I think keeping the program as flexible as possible during the start up would be best which means funding per award would be a case-by-case basis. As trends start to establish themselves, a more defined benefit and submittal process could be introduced.
